4 Ways Leaders Can Manage Stress So It Will Not Affect Team Moral

Identify why you are stressed.

I know this seems simple, but its a big one. To know how to handle, manage, or calm the stress, you need to identify it. Why is your pulse racing? What are you afraid of? What do you want to avoid? What is your team afraid of? Being honest with yourself is essential to you displaying your authenticity. This will likely increase your team’s trust in you, therefore, increasing morale.

Not only should you identify your stress, you should write it down. This allows you to release it from your mind.

Be honest with your team

Being honest how you feel, will give you the relatability factor your team will appreciate. And honesty is also a way to release mental tension and lessen its burdens. Plus, when the leader is honest, it is highly likely the the team feels the same way. Finding that common ground will only help the team.

Create a safe space to allow all parties to express their stress.

Deep Breathes

Oh yes! The oldie but goodie. Its free and easy to implement. So why do people overlook this? Well, I think that people overlook this because it is almost too easy…too easy for it to work. But I can tell you, due to all of the research on breathing, it absolutely work…when implemented the right way. Deep breathes are different from routine breathing in that it allows your thoughts to reset and increase mental clarity.

Put your hand over your heart, close your eyes, and take 10 slow deep breaths.
